I slept in, really what was needed. So why am I dealing with the dragon of doubt in my head?
I was tired and did a lot of work to get to this point. Sleeping in was exactly what my body wanted and I feel so much better for it.
So why am I trying to convince myself that I am not lazy?
I have a lot I wanted to do today. Most of it can wait and it will for when I have the energy to get it done. The garden, mess and laundry will be here tomorrow. No one is hurt by my indulgent morning, no one was neglected.
Laziness...
What a farce.
A social concept of some sort that keeps us self-motivated. Usually programmed into our heads at a young age by those whoa re afraid of resting or falling behind themselves. A dragon that does not let us rest and be honest with our needs.
You can be burnt out and people feel sympathy, but if you are lazy people seem to be jealous or condescending.
Maybe we can re-write the social story of laziness.
Laziness is not a passive act. It is an active skill. To be practiced.
When a person needs to rest, to pull back, to turn off or to shut down, who are we to judge them?
Maybe with some more laziness we would all be a little bit more patient and understanding.
I do not sit here and do nothing for the sake of doing nothing. I rest, I recoup, I recover, I regenerate, I build up the energy I need for the rest of my life.
All of that is active. I am not being lazy I am being actively lazy.
I am allowing myself to calm down, slow down and replenish the deep well of caring I need for the next day.
We have been sold another bill of poop. Laziness is not a bad thing. It can and will help you and the people around you. It is giving back by helping you stay healthier and thus requiring less services from the world at large. It slows you down and, lets be honest, we all love being a little lazy at times, why not indulge.
Laziness does not cause global warming, wars or the sun to explode. It actually can help.
Laziness out of balance, overindulged, can cause problems but, lets be real, most people are not over lazy.
Most people I know are over active, over involved and struggling with burn out. Laziness is a tool in dealing with burn out.
Laziness done with self-permission is an activity. It takes work to let yourself rest and let go of all the "shoulds" in our life.
When I am having a day or morning of letting it all go I call it "lazing"; the act giving myself permission to be as tired, turned off or immobile as needed.
If you have a lazy day, I congratulate you. Thank You for taking the time to recharge and rebuild yourself. Thank You for caring about yourself.
... and that voice that tells you that you are bad for being lazy, tell it to shut up for the day. I assure you it is just programming from people of influence when you were younger and it has no use in your head.
"Slow down you move to fast, you got to make the morning last..."
